Dear Future White Mountain International Student,
In the past 3.5 weeks, I’ve flown over 38,152 miles, taken 13 flights, missed 1 flight, and almost missed another. I stood for a total for 26 hours in school fairs, all in hopes I would meet the future White Mountain School student. In the past 3.5 weeks, I’ve spoken to thousands of students in Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, Hong Kong, Budapest, Bratislava and Prague, all with the hope I would meet you!
You were curious about this small boarding school in Bethlehem, NH, 2.5 hours north of Boston. And you took a courageous step towards my booth after you had spoken to 10 or 15 other schools – quite possibly more. You and your family looked overwhelmed, but there was still that glimmer of excitement in your eyes of what your future would hold in America. And on the other side of the table you found a compassionate person eagerly awaiting the opportunity to tell you the story of White Mountain and the amazing students, faculty, and staff back in Bethlehem.
You asked very thoughtful and direct questions to gather as much information as you could in our brief 2 minute conversation. Often times I thought you were interviewing me, and that’s what I want from a future White Mountain student. Someone who isn’t afraid to speak up and advocate for themselves and be a part of the change!
As an international student at White Mountain, you will bring many wonderful cultural and educational experiences to our school and community. At White Mountain, we honor every student’s personal story and take pride in giving our students the space to share openly about who they are and where they come from. For our international students, one way we learn about your background and culture is through a special evening called International Night. THIS IS YOUR NIGHT! The night when you get to tell your story of where you come from and your culture through language, music, dance, food and storytelling.
There’s a famous quote by Eleanor Roosevelt which rings true to me when I think about the journey you’re about to embark on – “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” By choosing to study in America, you are making a very courageous step to further your dreams and your future. And at White Mountain we will guide you compassionately and show you how to be curious so you can live up to your dreams!
All my best,
Director of International Student Recruitment
