…a wonderful afternoon for avid readers and aspiring novelists alike!
The White Mountain School is pleased to welcome author and teacher, Susan Carlton to campus on May 20, 2012. Ms. Carlton will be reading from her newest novel, Love & Haight, as well as discussing her life and career as a novelist. This will be a wonderful afternoon for avid readers and aspiring novelists alike!
Susan Carlton is the author of Lobsterland and Love & Haight, both novels for teenagers. For many years, Carlton was a magazine writer and editor for women’s magazines, including Self, Elle, and Mademoiselle. When she is not writing novels, Carlton teaches writing at Boston University, both at the School of Management and the College of Communication. She lives with her family in Andover, Mass.
Her latest novel, Love & Haight, is set in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury in 1971. It’s about old love, new love, and free love. It follows seventeen-year-old Chloe as she seeks to end a pregnancy in counterculture San Francisco a year before the Roe v. Wade decision. The book has received glowing reviews from Kirkus and Publisher’s Weekly.
“Love and Haight is daring, insightful, romantic and wonderfully honest. Carlton has created characters that feel so real, you’ll be thinking about them long after you finish this fascinating book.” —Candace Bushnell, author of The Carrie Diaries
