WMS just hosted Family Weekend, and what a weekend it was!
by Megan Sweeney
WMS was thrilled to welcome current families to campus for Family Weekend on October 19 – 20, 2012! Families were given the chance to experience WMS right alongside our students, gaining true insight into our close-knit community that they can’t quite get through phone calls or emails.
The day began, as always, with Morning Meeting and this morning we were treated to a gorgeous vocal performance from Sophia Grogan ’13, Katie Wolfe ’13, Payge Emerson ’15, and music teacher Rachel Spector, where they performed songs by Mumford & Sons and Gnarls Barkley, as well as a gorgeous original piece. Still reeling at our students’ artistic abilities, we broke for a shortened class schedule. Some students were joined in class by their parents, who enjoyed getting an inside look at the classroom.
The afternoon was devoted to sports for the students and conferences between parents, teachers, and advisors, allowing parents to get some face time with the people who live and work with their children on a day to day basis.
After a lovely parents’ reception at the head of school’s house, hosted by Tim and Julie, we all settled in to enjoy a fantastic Harvest Dinner, with freshly pressed cider and delicious organic vegetables grown by our very own Farm and Forest team and prepared by our fantastic kitchen staff!
The evening concluded with theater students, under the direction of Barbara Buckley, entertaining us with four short plays. “The Fall of the House of Usher” and “The Tell-Tale Heart” put us all in the Halloween spirit while “Jumping” and “Action News: Now with 10% More Action” drew some twisted laughs from the audience.
On Saturday morning, short classes and parent-teacher conferences continued. That afternoon, we watched as our girls and boys soccer teams played amazing games against Hebron and Vermont Academy. Both teams were victorious, giving us the perfect end to a wonderful Family Weekend!
