Mountain Day

Yes. It’s true! Today is THE day. Mountain Day, the elusive surprise day off from school has finally arrived. Each winter, WMS students try to guess which day it will be. Every year, Associate Head of School Nate Snow taunts us with announcements that lead us to believe that it might be right around the corner. But on Tuesday the students found themselves a bit ahead of the game when the telltale yellow school bus arrived a little bit early, tipping off a flurry of excitement and whispers at Morning Meeting. And then there were the bag lunches that got wheeled out into the dining room just a few minutes before everyone left breakfast.

After patiently waiting through the normal routine of announcements and a presentation at Morning Meeting- that included an explanation for next year’s Proctor applications and an request from an over zealous English teacher asking students to please turn in their composition notebooks by lunch time (students saw right through that one and erupted in laughter)- Barbara ’16 was alerted by Assistant Dean of Students Ted Teegarden of the day’s true events. She had the pleasure of spreading the news:

And then we were off! The entire school loaded on to buses bound for Jay Peak resort in Vermont, where (not surprisingly- given the meager snowfall this year) the vast majority of students elected to spend the day at the indoor water park, rather than on the slopes. Thank you to the faculty and staff who worked hard to make this year’s Mountain Day another memorable experience for the entire WMS community.

Alex ’16 found some time to hit the slopes. Jay Peak was the only ski resort in Vermont with 100% of its runs open on Mountain Day.
