Last week, The White Mountain School community gathered together to enjoy a week of fun, creativity, and school spirit, culminating in a fun Halloween party, with Spirit Week.
On Monday, the theme was colors. Freshmen wore yellow, Sophomores dressed in red, Juniors put on a garb of green, Seniors wore purple, and spirited faculty showed off their wild sides with animal print ensembles.
Tuesday had us seeing double with Twin Day, where students and faculty alike constructed elaborate and bizarre outfits just to be identical.
Wednesday fostered spirit of a different kind with Sports Day. Some dug their favorite team’s hat, jersey, or t-shirt out of the closet, while others chose to wear their personal gear for sports such as soccer, rock climbing, or whitewater rafting.
In an extended flashback to a time when side ponytails, massive shoulder pads, and Twisted Sister were socially acceptable, Thursday was WMS’s tribute to the 80’s. Neon, off-the-shoulder shirts, and legwarmers abounded, and some members of the faculty could be seen wearing clothes authentic to the period.
Finally, Friday came, and WMS dressed up as its favorite movie or book character. The day saw a number of unusual characters wandering the halls, including (but certainly not limited to): John Lennon, Ron Burgundy, Mulan, a couple of Sherlock Holmeses, Princess Leia, a gorilla, and several Angry Birds.
The day concluded with a fantastic Halloween community dinner prepared by our excellent dining hall staff. Our costumed community dined on chicken wings, pie, and delicious candy, but the fun didn’t stop after dinner. After a contest that decided the scariest, coolest, and cutest costumes, students played a variety of spooky and sugary Halloween games before going downstairs to dance the night away at our annual Halloween dance.
This most spirited of weeks ended in a Dark Blue victory, with a score of 137 to 129.
