Barbara McFadden Sirna ’63, incoming Board Chair states, “The White Mountain School continues to send well-rounded and inquiring students into the world better qualified to deal with life’s challenges and with the confidence to make positive contributions to the world in whatever way they choose.”
The Trustees of The White Mountain School, Bethlehem, NH, are pleased to announce the appointment of Barbara McFadden Sirna ’63 of Rye, New York and La Quinta, California as Chair of the Board of Trustees. An alumna of the School, longtime member of the Board of Trustees and investment professional, Barbara brings many years of dedication, experience and wisdom to her new position. Barbara graduated from the School in 1963 when it was called St. Mary’s-in-the-Mountains. She began her longtime service to the School as the alumnae/i representative to the Board of Trustees in 1975. She has served almost continuously on the Board of Trustees since 1975. “My frequent visits to the White Mountains and the opportunity to be of service to my alma mater for more than three decades have been an important and fulfilling part of my life,” said Sirna. After serving as Board Secretary for a number of years, Barbara was elected Vice-Chair in 2008, and has continued to serve in that position since.
In addition to her longtime commitment to The White Mountain School and to the School’s educational mission, Barbara brings to her new position many years of private equity and investment experience. She began her career in 1968, working with Private Money Managers and then headed the trading department at Merrill Lynch Asset Management when it first opened in 1974 and served in that position until 1980. Sirna is the founder and president of Ettlinger Adams Capital Management, Inc., a money management firm. At various times in her business career, Barbara has not only owned and managed a variety of investment and business real estate properties, but has also been called upon to serve as the executor of several large estates.
Outgoing Board Chair, John Brown, Esq., parent of Jeffrey Brown ’04, says of his work with Barbara over the last ten years that, “She has been extraordinarily generous not only with her time and business expertise in service to the School but also as one of the leading financial contributors to a variety of the School’s capital improvement projects and educational endeavors over many years. Her support has in no small part enabled the School to enjoy the successes it does today.”
Mrs. Sirna says of her alma mater, “St. Mary’s gave me the educational foundation, support and confidence I needed to enter the worlds of work and adult life. The White Mountain School continues to send well-rounded and inquiring students into the world better qualified to deal with life’s challenges and with the confidence to make positive contributions to the world in whatever way they choose. For these reasons I am proud to support The White Mountain School and its mission as an independent boarding school.”
Barbara McFadden Sirna will officially begin her role as Chair of the Board of The White Mountain School on July 1, 2012.
