WMS Hosts USA Climbing Competition

Get the details on the April 20th climbing competition!
Spring is finally here, and The White Mountain School’s rock climbing program is ready to start climbing. This spring, we are thrilled to host the 11th annual USA Climbing Sport Climbing Series Competition in our state-of-the-art climbing gym. Our climbing wall covers 3,000 square feet of space, peaks at 38 feet in height, and includes over 500 square feet of steep terrain, providing a variety of challenges for competitors of all skill levels. Participants can compete to rank in the regional and national circuit, or just as a one-time event to have some fun and test their skills.

The format for competition will be redpoint, allowing climbers to try and climb as many routes of varying difficulty as they can within three hours. The competition is open to the public, whether you want to compete or cheer our climbers on. With competitors from all over New England, the competition is sure to be fierce!

This competition comes at an exciting time for The White Mountain School and USA Climbing. Our partnership, formed in Summer 2012, is stronger than ever and we’re looking forward to a wonderful season. As part of the partnership, The White Mountain Climbing Camp has created a contest based on sportsmanship and the winners will be announced at The White Mountain School’s April 20th Competition. Three climbers will be awarded full scholarships to The White Mountain Climbing Camp this summer.

The date is set for Saturday, April 20th with registration beginning at 9:30 AM. We are staggering the start times for the different age groups. Competitors born between 2002 and 1998 will begin climbing at 11:00 AM and continue until 2:00 PM. For older participants, registration begins at 10:30 with climbing from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The competition fee is $45 for USA Climbing members and an additional $5 nonmember fee can be paid at the door. You can preregister on our site or at the door. We hope to see you all on the wall this weekend!
