We are thrilled to welcome Amy Bannon ’14 back to White Mountain for the fall semester! Amy will be coaching climbing and doing an internship in the outdoor education department, helping to prepare for fall field courses. “I had to come back” is the way Amy describes her return to the School and this has been a recurring feeling for her ever since the first summer that she discovered The White Mountain School Climbing Camp. She attended the camp for three consecutive summers and then convinced her parents to let her apply and eventually enroll at White Mountain for her senior year despite their initial hesitation to have her attend boarding school.
Amy took full advantage of her senior year at White Mountain and has continued to develop and build on many of the interests and skills she discovered and honed throughout that year. Amy is currently in her senior year at Prescott College in Arizona and when she departs White Mountain at the end of the fall, she will return to Prescott to complete her senior project, initiating and developing a volunteer program for the Northern Arizona Adaptive Sports Association at the Arizona Snowbowl. Her interest in this type of work was sparked during her senior year at White Mountain when the director of the Adaptive Sports Partners of the North Country program made a presentation at Morning Meeting about local volunteer opportunities for helping people with physical and/or developmental disabilities to access and enjoy outdoor recreational activities. Amy knew immediately that she wanted to get involved, and she certainly sees this type of work as something she will continue well into the future.
For now, Amy is thrilled to be back at White Mountain and to have the chance to experience the School from a different perspective. “I hope to help students realize that they are so fortunate to be here and that they have incredible access to so many opportunities.” The faculty and students alike are certainly fortunate to have Amy back on campus and we are so happy that she felt the desire to come back!
