In addition to his ongoing role as Director of College Counseling, Lawrence Alexander has taken on a new role as Director of Diversity & Inclusion. Lawrence feels grateful that this new position is an outgrowth and extension of work that he and the School were already engaged in. “This is an intentional effort to lead the White Mountain community toward understanding, appreciating, and celebrating the diversity in our community,” says Lawrence, and he is excited about the initiatives that he will be leading this year. One Morning Reading per month is dedicated to diversity and inclusion, Lawrence will lead a Spring Field Course entitled Hands in Heritage: The Civil Rights Legacy of Jewish and African Americans and he is also the chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee. This group, which is comprised of both faculty and students, will take on what Lawrence describes as “functional tasks”: leading the weekly diversity club meetings, inviting guest speakers to present to the community and working with the Admission Office and the Hiring Team to ensure that we are attracting and retaining a diverse group of students and faculty.
