Hi WMS Families,
The cooler weather of this past week has jumpstarted the foliage in a big way and the leaves are really starting to turn, just in time for what should be a wonderful Field Course week next week.
The first of our groups (Land of Fire and Ice) departstomorrow for Iceland (no idea what weather they might see?). Parents of students on that course can actually follow their location on-line with our new DeLorme inReach device that Ted will have. The details and web address is on the parent itinerary form (see below).
If you have not yet registered for the upcoming Fall Family Weekend and plan to join us, please take a moment to do that today. This will help ensure that you are able to meet with all of your WMS student’s teachers and assists us with planning for events and meals. You can see the full schedule and register online right online at our website. Immediately following our Family Weekend is our short Fall Break. The campus is closed from Saturday afternoon until Tuesdayafternoon at 3pm. Students are eligible to leave for the break following their last commitment on Saturday, October 11th. For many students, that will be the ribbon cutting ceremony for the revitalized WMS Formal Garden on Saturday morning. Both boys and girls soccer teams do have a2pm game that afternoon so they will be on campus a bit longer. If your child is going to be traveling by bus, train or plane (or require WMS transportation at any point) for this weekend, please send his/her travel plans to Jessica. Boarding students should plan to return to campus Tuesday, October 20th between 3 and 7pm (exceptions being those flying into Manchester in time for our 8pm bus or arriving in Littleton at 9:30pm via the Concord Coach bus). If you have any questions at all about this break or travel, please let me or Jessica know.
Also attached to this email you will find a list of the Field Courses along with contact information and basic itineraries. Since students will not typically have their phones with them during these courses, it is most likely that you will not hear directly from them next week (for some of you that may just seem like an ordinary week!). If you need to reach your child while they are on Field Course, the best way to do that is to contact the school directly and we can put you in contact with the group. The office will be open 7:30-5:30 each day and Shane will be holding down the fort and carrying the AOD phone (603-616-1528) for any off hours communication. We do ask that Field Course groups check in when they arrive at their destination and periodically throughout the week (as email and cellphone access allows) so we will provide these updates as well.
This is another busy weekend on (and around campus). It is our second Project Block (B) of the year and we’ll have sports on Saturday afternoon. A good number of our seniors will also be taking the SAT on Saturday as well. The girls soccer team travels to High Mowing for a soccer rematch while the boys have a rare Saturday without a game. Campbell has the off-campus trips this weekend and he is going all in on fall with a haunted corn maze on Saturday night followed by apple picking and cider donuts on Sunday. A reminder to everyone that we do have Final Pack for all Field Course trips (except Iceland) on Sunday evening at 6pm. We are also excited to welcome our wonderful Board of Trustees to campus this weekend as well!
Thanks to those of you who took the time to complete the Community Handbook acknowledgement last week. If you have not yet done this, here is the link again. Thanks so much for doing this! As always, please let me know if you have any questions.
Since I will be on Field Course next week, Shane has graciously agreed to send out the weekend schedule and an update next Friday. There will also be a mid-week message sent out that will include any Field Course updates (glad to see Hurricane Joaquin looking more likely to stay out to sea) as well. Katie will also be updating our social media sites with anything that arrives from our off-campus groups next week so be on the lookout for that as well!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
