Hi WMS Families,
It has been great to hear so many wonderful stories from last week’s Field Courses. It is clear that students learned a lot from these experiences and also had a ton of fun. There are photos from most trips up now on the school’s Picasa page and I know that folks in Communications are working on a short Field Course video to share as well. If you as parents have any feedback on Field Courses, please let Shane or Ted know – I know they would appreciate it. Planning for our spring courses in March is already well underway!
This past Wednesday we held our annual College Day event here on campus for 9th and 12th graders. Seniors had a chance to work on their college applications and participate in meetings with teachers to go over the all important essay. There were also opportunities for mock interviews. Seniors really appreciated having a day to just focus on this and to get valuable support and feedback. 9th graders had a chance to do some bonding and goal setting and each of them created a “forecast” document for their time at WMS. The 10th and 11th graders all used the morning to take the PSAT – also an important piece for college preparation.
If you are unable to join us on campus this weekend and meet with your child’s teachers, we do ask advisors to reach out to you with an update – this one focused mostly on academic progress. I know some of you follow that progress on MyWMS (which is great!), but we do look at this time period as our first “check-in” on grades and teacher feedback. There is still plenty of time before the mid-term in November to address any issues that have appeared, now that we are over a month into the year.
Thanks to those of you who have communicated travel plans for the long weekend. If anything comes up over the break or any travel issues arise, please call the office(603-444-2928) during regular business hours or the AOD phone (603-616-1528) outside of those times.
A quick note on the Family Weekend schedule: there are 2 Saturday morning sessions scheduled with Erik Bertelsen, College Counselor. While not identified as such on the schedule the first of those (8:30am) is geared towards parents of 9th/10th graders and the later session (10:10am) is designed for parents of 11th/12th graders. Sorry for the lack of clarity on that point. Erik is also available to meet individually with families as well throughout the weekend.
Again, we’re looking forward to seeing many of you this weekend! Hopefully the amazing foliage can hang on for a few more days – it really is beautiful! As always, please let me know if you have any questions.
