The Final Stretch

Hi WMS Families,

It is hard to believe that we are turning the calendar page to our final month of the school year.  Already, many “last” things are starting to pop up here and there.  It never ceases to amaze me how quickly the school year goes by.  Students may not always agree with that assessment, particularly after a long Thursday of classes, but more and more it is becoming my reality!

Even harder to believe is that we are beginning the process of preparing for next year.  Next year’s student proctors were announced this week at morning meeting and we are excited for this crop of student leaders to take the helm.  Students will be making speeches for student council posts next week with the voting for those spots to follow.  Returning students have already made course requests for next year and boarding students will soon be choosing rooms and roommates for next year (friendly reminder that students need to be enrolled to be placed in classes or select a room – if you have questions about enrollment status, please contact the Business Office).  We are fine tuning our forms and documents for next year and those will be available soon.  The 2015-2016 School Calendar is available on the parent portal.  Please do not hesitate to reach out should you have any questions about any of these things.

Trying not to get ahead of myself, there remains much to do this year while we begin some of the process of preparing for the next.  It is a busy weekend on campus with 11th graders taking the SAT on Saturday, the girls lacrosse team traveling to Hebron for a game, Hiapo taking a trip for burritos and bouldering (hopefully not in that order) down in Rumney, the National Honor Society spearheading participation in Bethlehem’s annual roadside cleanup day, and students getting to do some shopping at the outlets in Tilton.  AP Exams start up next week and we will have students spending some time this weekend reviewing for these as well.  As the weather warms up, I’m sure we’ll also just have students (finally!) hanging out on Hood’s Hill (I saw my first frisbee of the year this week and it was awesome!) and enjoying the arrival of spring.

The White Mountain School is especially excited to be honoring two longtime supporters of the school this weekend.  As part of our driveway and parking overhaul and upgrades coming this summer, WMS is excited to be able to dedicate the Jack and Ruth Cook Circle in front of the Main Building.  Jack and Ruth have been involved with WMS for close to 25 years in a variety of capacities and have been instrumental in so many important initiatives over that time.  The ceremony honoring these two wonderful friends of the school will take place in the front circle at 11:30am on Saturday morning.

We are looking forward to seeing many of you next weekend for Family Weekend.  Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and allow full enjoyment of a great schedule of activities.  You should have received confirmation of any scheduled meetings from Sarah Catlin.  If you have any questions about your schedule or the weekend in general, please let Sarah know.

As always, please enjoy your weekend and let us know if you have any questions!

Best,
Nate
