The First Advisee Dinner

“Tonight is our first Advisor Dinner of the year. This great WMS tradition has us closing the dining hall for the night and students all dining in small groups with their advisors. Some will choose to go out, while many groups will work together to make dinner in their advisor’s kitchen (and then hopefully help clean up afterwards!). The Snow family will be hosting our 9th annual Fall Advisor Dinner Cookout and Croquet Tournament. I train all year for this.”

Read on for more information about the start of school and Field Course sign-ups, as well as information about Fall Family Weekend on October 25.

This is our first weekend with classes and sports, with “A period” Project Block on Saturday morning followed by sports in the afternoon. We’ve also got some great early fall outdoor activities on the schedule for this weekend: Mountain Biking, Hiking and Extreme Bocce all coming up.

Students have been busy this week learning about and signing up for their Fall Field Courses. I have attached a copy of the course descriptions to this email so you can see the wonderful array of opportunities available for this unique and engaging program. Fall Field Course this year runs from Monday 9/29Friday 10/3 (with a few exceptions for longer trips). Prior to the courses heading out, all parents will receive detailed information about each course, including location, contact information and basic itineraries. If you have any questions about Field Course, please reach out to Ted Teegarden, Director of Outdoor Education (ted.teegarden@whitemountain.org).

Our Family Weekend is coming up quickly and we hope that many of you are able to join us. You will have the opportunity to meet with teachers, advisors, and administrators as well as join us for our annual Harvest Dinner, see our theater groups perform and soccer teams compete and hear from our keynote speaker, Rev. Stephen Blackmer, Episcopal priest, environmentalist and founder of the Church of the Woods. You can find a full schedule of events and register online for Family Weekend on our website.

As we all get settled into a more normal routine of classes, sports, weekend activities and the like, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.  Hopefully, you have heard from your child’s advisor and those lines of communication are open. As I mentioned last week, there are some awesome photos up from Community Weekend (and Orientation Trips) on the school’s photo page. Checking these out is a great way to get a sense of the amazing energy that permeates the start of the year here. Other great ways to stay connected and share in some of the happenings here on campus are to check us out on facebook or twitter. You never know what (or who) you might see!

As always, have a great weekend and let me know if you have any questions!

Best,

Nate
