USA Climbing is the governing body for competitive bouldering, sport climbing and speed climbing in the United States, sanctioning competitions in all three disciplines across the country. Since becoming a national organization in 2004, USA Climbing has formed the largest competitive climbing organization in US history. Their mission is to ensure the success and growth of climbing as a sport.
WMS, with its long tradition of training and educating well-rounded climbers, matches the ideals of USA Climbing’s mission and goals but offers a greater diversity of climbing opportunities. Our School is an ideal place for high school students interested in pursuing climbing and mountaineering as a sport, hobby, passion or career while also experiencing a deep, intensive and unique academic program. Our program instructors are all trained and certified by the American Mountain Guides Association and we have an incredible 3:1 student-instructor ratio, ensuring safety, challenge, and guidance for each and every student. Our nationally recognized summer climbing camps are a fun and challenging experience for beginners and experts alike.
The White Mountain School is excited to expand our competitive climbing program. Previously a small club that met in the evenings, the competitive climbing team is expected to garner greater funding, more participants, and an upgrade from club to after-school sport activity. We also plan to more frequently enter our competitive climbing team in competitions, allowing individuals a greater chance to hone their skills.
Our newfound partnership with USA Climbing comes on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the Beverly S. Buder ‘42 Climbing Wall, a vital resource for WMS Outdoor Education as well as the student body in general. As our well-used and well-loved 3000 square foot climbing wall reaches its 10th birthday, we look forward to a fantastic new year in inspiring our students to climb ever higher.
