White Mountain faculty members have been busy traveling and presenting at different conferences this past month! Director of the Learning Center, Jennifer Willis, and Head of the Student Assistance Program, Matthew Toms, traveled to New Orleans for the annual Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) conference. Although I am sure they had their fill of beignets, po’boys and gumbo, they also had the honor and privilege of presenting and sharing the work they’ve done with students over the years to educational consultants from all over the country.
This past week, Head of School Tim Breen also traveled to New Orleans to present at the National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES) Biennial Conference 2016. The presentation focused on our academic program — engaging students in Student-Driven Inquiry — and how it links to the values of our Episcopal heritage. Tim made it back to campus just in time for our Open House this past weekend and to present to an audience in China via a live web feed for Capvision, a world-leading knowledge platform that facilitates the transfer of knowledge between professionals. This presentation focused on boarding schools and life at a small boarding school, like White Mountain.
Stay tuned to find out where our faculty travel to next. Academic Dean Shane McElhiney and Director of Outdoor Education Ted Teegarden are presenting at The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS) conference in Washington DC on our Field Courses and the alignment that can exist between outdoor education and academic pedagogy.
