National Honor Society

In a recent ceremony ten students became The White Mountain School’s newest members of the National Honor Society.

The annual ceremony honors outstanding character, scholarship, service, and leadership and is organized by WMS faculty member Becky Beno. The formal exercises included the announcement of the newest inductees when, by tradition, the current members entered the audience with bouquets of flowers for each new member.

WMS not only recognizes National Honor Society Students for their past accomplishments, but also challenges them to further develop their strengths through continued immersion in community service projects and in the life of the school.

As a group, the 2013-2014 White Mountain School chapter of the National Honor Society worked together to earn money for The Wounded Warrior Project; they also volunteered with the Bethlehem Recreation Department, volunteered with The Dinner Bell, spearheaded WMS’s participation in a local coat drive, and participated in Bethlehem’s annual roadside clean up day.

Individually, this year’s NHS members volunteered in locations both near and far. They volunteered in the Dominican Republic and at food pantries and soup kitchens in Boston. They helped out at The Frost Place and Franconia Children’s Center. They also volunteered at Earth Day clean up events and at All Saint’s Episcopal Church. On the WMS campus, they served as proctors, student council members, Citizenship Committee members, tutors, Field Course assistants, and club & class leaders. They were also key organizers of important WMS all school events such as the Martin Luther King Junior Day Celebration and International Night. And…they have done all this while maintaining excellent grades- Congratulations to The White Mountain School National Honor Society members!
