All faculty and students will be reading a common book this summer.
This summer, all WMS faculty and students (new and returning) will be reading a common book. This will allow us all to share some thoughts on this book when we return, provoke discussion on Orientation Trips and beyond as well as promote curricular work across grade levels and disciplines. When we return in the fall we will have some focused time in a few different environments to share thoughts on this story and answer questions about the book and what we may have learned from it.
For the summer of 2011, we will be reading “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind: Creating Currents of Electricity and Hope” by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer (ISBN # 978-0-06-173033-7). This book tells the inspiring story of a young boy in Malawi who dared to dream big against tall odds. It fits well with our curriculum and mission with a focus on sustainability, science, service, and life outside of formal academics. The book is available in our on-line school bookstore, can be purchased at Amazon or other retailers and is available in most libraries.
